In Austria, the number of security-police case conferences has been increased. In addition, the number of prevention officers has more than doubled from 500 to 1,200 persons since 2020.
In the first quarter of 2023, the number of entry and approach bans was 3,844. In the area of violence in the private sphere, there were 70 security policy case conferences and more than 3,100 counselling units for endangered persons. About 90 per cent of the endangering persons are male.
The increase in bans on entering and approaching is mainly due to the sensitisation of society. An increase in bans on entering and approaching does not necessarily mean an increase in violence in the private sphere, but above all a high willingness to report to the police. “Networking is a decisive factor in the protection against violence. By further intensifying the security police case conferences, the close cooperation of all actors will be further developed,” said Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner.
