The forces of the Bavarian Border Police had to deal with more than 56,000 cases last year. This represents an increase of 5.5 percentage points compared to 2021 and a record number since the agency was established.
Significantly more unauthorised entries and narcotics offences were detected. In addition, there were more search hits and finds of prohibited weapons. In 2022, the Bavarian border police made a total of 21,090 search hits (2021: 17,901) in the course of the border controls, the temporary border controls at the land border with Austria and the border controls at the Bavarian airports in Nuremberg and Memmingen. “We need the Bavarian Border Police more than ever,” declared Minister of the Interior Joachim Herrmann in the presence of Minister President Dr. Markus Söder (both CSU). The head of department also thanked the federal police for their excellent cooperation. And Minister President Söder declared: “The Bavarian Border Police is a model of success and our firewall against criminals. It makes Bavaria safer. Together with the Federal Police, more than 1,000 kilometres of border are secured.” Minister of the Interior Herrmann announced a significant expansion of the Bavarian Border Police. Since its establishment in July 2018, the number of border police officers has already increased by 300 to 800, with a target of 1,000 posts in 2025, he said.The European Police Congress of the Behörden Spiegel will also deal with border security.
