(BS) Cybertrading is a scam. The criminals offer shares, foreign exchange or cryptocurrencies for sale on the internet. The catch: the assets do not exist. Together with European partners, the Göttingen police and public prosecutor’s office have taken action against fraudsters.
The specialised cybercrime unit of the Central Criminal Investigation Department of the Göttingen Police Headquarters searched six properties in Germany. They confiscated evidence such as smartphones, computers, data carriers and documents. The operation took place in cooperation with European partners. Eurojust and Europol were involved, as were local police forces from other member states. Six properties in Cyprus and one in Sweden were also searched in this context. The authorities arrested three suspects, one each in Belgium, Montenegro and Cyprus. The suspects are between 24 and 33 years old.
The Göttingen police have been investigating them since November 2021. The group of perpetrators had caused at least six-figure damage through the platforms “Blue-Lable”, “i-Banners”, “AllCinvest” and “Greenlinepro”. The Göttingen public prosecutor’s office, which is leading the German proceedings, believes that they defrauded a further 3.3 million euros from their victims through the “Daxiron” platform. The public prosecutor’s office assumes that the total loss is even higher. The investigation is ongoing, according to the Göttingen office. Initially, the suspects and the evidence are to be extradited to Germany.
