In future, specialised doctors will accompany particularly dangerous missions of the Special Operations Command (SEK) in Baden-Württemberg. So far, this is unique in Germany. Among other things, they will accompany operations against armed or particularly dangerous perpetrators as well as against members of organised crime (OC) or serious criminals. The same applies to suspected terrorists or persons at risk of suicide. For the time being, there will be three medical officers who are familiar with the tactics of the special units and can provide immediate assistance. From now on, the licensed doctors with specialist qualifications will be part of the police medical service and will be on duty at the police headquarters. The SEK is also part of this service.
The Baden-Württemberg SEK is the only SEK in Germany to have a police helicopter at its disposal at the Göppingen location. Besides the GSG 9 of the Federal Police, the Baden-Württemberg SEK is the only other German special unit to be a member of the international ATLAS network.
